Garrard 301 Hammertone Grease Bearing Schedule 1 Turntable
Here we have a stunning Garrard 301 Hammertone, Grease-Bearing, Schedule 1 turntable. It is in full working order and has been owned by the same family for over fifty years. Approximately 20 years ago, it was recommissioned by an eminent London classical musician. His children remember it playing music throughout their early years, but following his recent passing, they are now taking practical steps to share some of his cherished equipment with the wider audiophile community.
This listing is for the turntable only (no plinth). It runs beautifully at all three speeds, getting up to speed quickly and stabilising accurately. It is currently configured for correct speed in the UK, with the eddy brake backed off. While this should be of little relevance to UK buyers, international customers may wish to adjust this to suit their local requirements. We have verified that an original grease bearing is fitted and the correct and original motor is fitted. Further pictures of the underside will be available when the turntable is removed from the plinth.
Among the photos you will find a short video showing close-up views of the turntable as it plays at each speed.
We do not yet know who carried out the restoration work 20 years ago, though we continue to encourage the family to investigate. It may well have been one of the usual specialists—such as Loricraft or Dr. Martin Bastin—but we cannot confirm this. What we can say is that it is a truly lovely example.
The turntable will be packed with exceptional care. We have been shipping Garrard decks for over 15 years, and you can rely on us to do the job properly. The asking price includes worldwide shipping, and we take full responsibility for its safe arrival.
