Album Notes
Originally released in 1958 on Riverside, Freedom Suite is one of Sonny Rollins’ most important recordings. Featuring his pioneering piano-less trio, the album pairs the ambitious title track with standards and showcases Rollins’ commanding tenor saxophone style. Many CD reissues also include tracks from Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders (1958), giving listeners a broader view of this highly creative period.
