Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Crossley Solutions Ltd, trading as Chorlton Analogue ("we", "us"), collects, uses and looks after your personal information — whether you are browsing or buying from chorltonanalogue.com (the "Site"), selling equipment to us, or simply getting in touch.

We are a small Manchester business dealing in vintage hi-fi and classical recordings, and we try to treat your information the way we would want ours treated: collect only what the job needs, keep it no longer than necessary, and never sell it.

Who we are

The data controller is Crossley Solutions Ltd, trading as Chorlton Analogue, 318a Palatine Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M22 4FW, United Kingdom. For anything in this policy, email privacy@chorltonanalogue.com.

What we collect, and why

Browsing the Site. When you visit the Site we collect certain technical information about your device and how you use the Site: browser version, IP address, time zone, cookie information, which pages and products you view, and search terms. We use this to make the Site work properly and to understand how it is used so we can improve it. It is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies, below) and is shared with Shopify, which powers our store, and with the advertising and marketplace platforms we use (Meta and eBay) as described below.

Buying from us. When you place an order we collect your name, billing and shipping addresses, email address, phone number, and your payment details. Payment is handled by our payment processors — we never see or store your full card number. We use this information to fulfil your order: to take payment, arrange delivery, send invoices and order confirmations, communicate with you about the order, and screen orders for fraud. Where you have opted in, we also use your email address to send you news and offers (see Marketing, below).

Contacting us. If you email or message us with a question, we keep the correspondence and use it to help you. That is all it is used for.

Selling equipment to us

If you contact us about selling your hi-fi, records or other equipment — through an advert on Facebook or Instagram, through a form on this site, or by getting in touch directly — this section explains what we do with what you tell us.

What we collect. Your name, your contact details (phone number and email address), your postcode, and a description of the equipment you have. If you reply to us afterwards, we keep that correspondence too. When you respond to one of our adverts on Facebook or Instagram, Meta passes us the answers you gave on the form. We do not receive anything else from your Facebook or Instagram profile.

If you ring, text or WhatsApp our enquiry line, we keep those messages too. Voicemails are recorded and automatically transcribed so we can deal with them quickly. All of it is stored and deleted on the same terms as any other enquiry, as set out in this policy.

Why we collect it. To answer your enquiry: to work out what your equipment is worth, to arrange a time to look at it or collect it, and to make you an offer. We need your postcode to judge whether you are within travelling distance and to plan collection — we do not need your full address unless we are actually coming to you.

Who sees it. Nobody outside the business. Your enquiry is stored on our own server in the UK. We do not sell, rent or share enquiry details with anyone else, and we do not pass them to advertising or analytics services.

One thing worth knowing: Facebook and Instagram keep a copy of any form you submitted for 90 days, under their own privacy policy, separately from us. Asking us to delete your details does not reach their copy — if you want that removed too, that is a request to Meta.

Our lawful bases

Under UK and EU data protection law (the UK GDPR and GDPR), we rely on: the performance of a contract, for processing your orders; legitimate interests, for answering enquiries about equipment you want to sell us, for fraud screening, and for keeping ordinary business records — these interests do not override your rights and freedoms; consent, for marketing, which you can withdraw at any time; and legal obligation, for the records tax law requires us to keep.

Sharing your information

We share personal information only where the job requires it: with Shopify, which powers our store (their privacy policy is at shopify.com/legal/privacy); with our payment processors, to take payment securely; with delivery companies and couriers, who receive your name, address and phone number to deliver what you have bought; and with Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and eBay in connection with our advertising and marketplace listings. We may also disclose information where the law requires it — for example in response to a lawful request from a public authority — or to protect our legal rights. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Marketing

If you sign up to our newsletter, or tick the marketing box when enquiring about selling equipment, we will occasionally email you about things you might want to buy or sell. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time by using it or by emailing privacy@chorltonanalogue.com. Withdrawing makes no difference to any order or enquiry.

How long we keep things

Enquiries about selling equipment: up to 24 months after we last hear from you, then deleted. Orders and purchases (including equipment we buy from you): these are business records which tax law requires us to keep for six years. Marketing details: until you unsubscribe. Technical and analytics data: according to the cookie lifetimes below.

Where your information is processed

Our own enquiry records are stored on our server in the UK. Information processed by Shopify is initially processed in Ireland and may be transferred outside Europe, including to Canada and the United States, under appropriate safeguards — see Shopify's GDPR documentation at help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/privacy/GDPR.

Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. Shopify, as our processor, uses limited automated fraud screening that does not have such effects — for example, temporarily denylisting IP addresses associated with repeated failed transactions (for a few hours) and cards associated with those addresses (for a few days). If you are in the UK or EEA you have the right to object to solely automated decision-making that significantly affects you.

Minors

The Site and our services are not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.

Cookies

A cookie is a small amount of information downloaded to your device when you visit the Site. We use cookies to make the store work (login, cart, checkout), and to understand how the Site is used.

Cookies necessary for the store to function: _ab (admin access), _secure_session_id (storefront navigation), cart, cart_sig, cart_ts, checkout_token, secret (cart and checkout), secure_customer_sig, storefront_digest (customer login), _shopify_u (account updates).

Reporting and analytics cookies: _tracking_consent (tracking preferences), _landing_page and _orig_referrer (landing pages), _s, _shopify_fs, _shopify_s, _shopify_y, _y (Shopify analytics), _shopify_sa_p and _shopify_sa_t (marketing and referral analytics).

Session cookies last until you stop browsing; persistent cookies last until they expire or are deleted — most of ours expire between 30 minutes and two years from download. You can control cookies through your browser settings (usually under Tools or Preferences); allaboutcookies.org explains how. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the Site work.

Do Not Track

Because there is no consistent industry standard for responding to "Do Not Track" signals, we do not currently alter our practices when we detect one.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask for a copy in a portable format, and object to or ask us to restrict certain processing. Email privacy@chorltonanalogue.com and we will deal with it within one month. Asking us to delete your details is always fine and we will not ask you to justify it — though where the law requires us to keep something (such as purchase records, for tax), we will tell you what must stay and why.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. If you are in the EEA, you can also contact your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal and regulatory reasons. The date below always shows the current version.
