This is an original SME arm rest assembly fitted with the metal hoop retaining clip used on early Series II 3009 and 3012 tonearms, as distinct from the all-plastic catch fitted to the later Improved version. It comprises the arm rest body, catch, and support rod, and is also compatible with Series II Improved and Series III arms.
